چکیده

Background: Laparoscopic surgeries are preferred and are becoming a standard therapeutic procedure. CO2 insufflation in these surgeries results in hemodynamic changes and fluctuations in the potassium level. Materials and Methods: The observational study was conducted in Department of Anaesthesia in Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College and Research Centre on 100 patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery. Blood potassium level and hemodynamic parameters (pulse rate, systolic, and diastolic blood pressure) were measured at four stages of surgery (preinduction, pre-insufflation, immediate postexsufflation, and immediately after extubation) were recorded. The results were analyzed by Students “t” test and P < 0.01 was considered as significant. Results: The changes in potassium level showed a significant difference in postexsufflation stage in which potassium level changed significantly (<0.01). The hemodynamic parameters (pulse rate, systolic, and diastolic blood pressure) showed no significant difference in four stages of surgeries. Conclusion: This study endorses that checking of serum potassium should be conducted in patients enduring laparoscopic procedures of extended duration.

Perioperative changes in platelet count and function in patients undergoing cardiac surgery

Background: Patients undergoing cardiac surgery are at increased risk of bleeding due to multifactorial coagulopathies. In the present study, we aimed at investigating the changes in platelet count and function during and after surgery as well as determining the association of the platelet dysfunction with bleeding and transfusion requirements in these patients. Methods: A total o...

ESTIMATION OF POTASSIUM, CALCIUM, AND MAGNESIUM IN BLOOD AND MYOCARDIAL TISSUE, AND DIAGNOSTIC IMPORTANCE OF URINARY MAGNESIUM EXCRETION IN EXPERIMENTALLY-INDUCED MYOCARDIAL INJURY

The results obtained in the present investigations point to a definite correlation between the onset of myocardial injury, electrocardiographic changes and biochemical changes. Changes in the electrocardiogram and elevated serum levels were paralleled by an increased excretion of magnesium in urine as early as one hour. Serum calcium and serum potassium levels did not show any significant ...

Preoperative serum potassium levels and perioperative outcomes in cardiac surgery patients. Multicenter Study of Perioperative Ischemia Research Group.

CONTEXT Although potassium is critical for normal electrophysiology, the association between abnormal preoperative serum potassium level and perioperative adverse events such as arrhythmias has not been examined rigorously. OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence of abnormal preoperative serum potassium levels and whether such abnormal levels are associated with adverse perioperative events. ...

General anesthesia type does not influence serum levels of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin during the perioperative period in video laparoscopic bariatric surgery

OBJECTIVES Video laparoscopic bariatric surgery is the preferred surgical technique for treating morbid obesity. However, pneumoperitoneum can pose risks to the kidneys by causing a decrease in renal blood flow. Furthermore, as in other surgical procedures, laparoscopic bariatric surgery triggers an acute inflammatory response. Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin is an early and accurate...

Increase in antimullerian hormone in long-term follow-up of patients with endometrioma after laparoscopic surgery

Abstract Background: Endometriosis is a common disease which is characterized by the development of the endometrial tissue outside the uterus. The most common location of endometriosis is the ovary, occurring in 17-44% of affected patients . It is a chronic disease mostly affecting women at reproductive age. Therefore, it is important to predict and protect the patients’ ovarian function. The...
